Enter the Global LEAP Off-Grid Refrigeration Competition to win up to $300,000
The Global LEAP is organizing an Off-Grid Refrigeration Competition for Sub-Saharan Africa that aims to take the process of refrigeration off-the-grid.
Off-the-grid energy is a system designed to help people live and function without the support of a remote pre-existing system like an electrical grid. This means that an off-grid refrigerator should be able to run independently of electricity from the normal sources.
The Global Lighting and Energy Access Partnership (LEAP) is an energy access initiative led by the U.S Department of Energy. This department supports quality assurance frameworks for off-grid energy products and services. And also builds consumer, industry, policymaker and investor confidence enabling the uptake of super-efficient off-grid technologies, which reduce energy supply costs.
The Scaling Off-Grid Energy Grand Challenge for Development will commence with an award for existing players in the off-grid refrigeration sector to catalyze new technological advancements and identify best-in-class commercially available off-grid refrigerators. This is to inspire innovation and provide customers with access to affordable off-grid refrigeration technology and solar home systems.
Entrepreneurs, manufacturers, engineers, students and all passionate problem-solvers that wish to apply should join the conversation by following the handle on Twitter at @ScalingOffGrid, participate in the conversation in June 2016 by using the #PowerAfrica. You should also be following the Power Africa page on Facebook. Applications proper will be received in September when the window is open.
